The Analysis of Difficulty Level of Grammar Exercises of textbook (THINK) in MA-PESRI Kendari

Abstract

This research was aimed at: (1) Finding out the difficulty level of THINK textbook’s grammar exercises (2) Finding out the cognitive level of Grammar Exercises in Think Textbook for grade ten used in MA PESRI Kendari which was published by Cambridge Publisher. The researcher  used qualitative method as her research design. The source of data in this research is the students’ score of the exercises grammar in THINK textbook for grade X. The researcher collected the students’ score then calculated the difficulty level and also analyzed the cognitive level. The result of this study is only available for MA Pesri Kendari. There are 12 chapters in this textbook. The exercises is limited only for grammar exercises in terms of Tenses, Article, Degree of Comparison, Indefinite Pronoun, Modal, Question Tags, Reported Statements, be/allowed/ let. The result confirmed that from 12 chapters which consisted of 89 grammar exercises this book has 82,02% medium level of difficulty, 12,35% hard level of difficulty, and 5,61% easy level of difficult. Also the researcher found that the level of cognitive obviously the same with difficulty level where from 89 exercises, there are 53 item of exercises which included in Middle Order Thinking Skill (MOTS) and 36 item of exercises which included in High Order Thinking Skill (HOTS).
