Abstract

English learning has been conducted online due to pandemic. Therefore, the objective of the study focuses on finding out students' problems on online English learning at SMPN 30 Konawe Selatan and describe the way their parents deal with the problems. This study used qualitative descriptive method. The researcher collected the data by distributing the questionn

aires through Google Form and doing interview. The questionnaires were sent via WhatsApp application. The questionnaires were distributed to 15 students at SMPN 30 Konawe Selatan of the VII class to know what are their problems on online English learning. Then, the researcher conducted interview to their parents to get the data about how parents deal with students’problems on online English learning. The results of this study indicates that students have problems on online English learning, including internet signal, assignment work, material understanding, difficulty mastering English skills/knowledge, while their parents can not deal with students' problems on online English learning, but they only able to deal with students’ external problems such as preparing mobile devices, internet quotas and some suggestions or motivation. In general, students have many problems on online English learning except in terms of using mobile devices while parents only act as facilitators and motivators, not educators.
