Language Styles in Louisa May Alcott’s Little Woman

Abstract

This study aims to identify the types of language style features in Louisa May Alcott's novel Little Woman based on Martin Joos's theory. This study was conducted with descriptive qualitative methods and the object was Little Woman novel. The data used in this study were written data in the form of text in the novel. After analyzing the data, the result shows that there are three language styles used in the novel: they are 10 formal styles, 17 casual styles, and 5 intimate styles. From these data, the researcher concluded that the most dominant of the three types of language style used in the Little Woman novel is casual style.
