The Correlation Between Study Habits and Students' English Learning Outcomes at SMP Negeri 1 Watopute Class VIII.1, Muna Regency

The present study aims to investigate the correlation between students' study habits and their English learning outcomes among Class VIII.1 at SMP Negeri 1 Watopute, Muna Regency. The study's focal point is the English learning performance of these students. In light of this, the study seeks to ascertain the extent of correlation between their study habits and English learning achievements. Employing an ex post facto design with a quantitative approach, the investigation involved Class VIII.1 students of SMP Negeri 1 Watopute during the 2022-2023 academic year, totaling 30 participants. Data collection encompassed the utilization of a Guttman scale questionnaire, aimed at comprehending the students' study habits, and midterm score documentation reflecting their English learning outcomes. The findings underscored a noteworthy and statistically significant correlation between study habits practiced at home and English learning outcomes for the Class VIII.1 students at SMP Negeri 1 Watopute, Muna Regency. This conclusion was supported by the computed significance value of 0.000, which is less than the predefined threshold of 0.05. The correlation coefficient further indicated a value of 0.417, elucidating that the variable of study habits at home contributes approximately 41.7% to the determination of students' English learning outcomes. This reinforces the pivotal role of home-based study habits in shaping academic performance. Collectively, these findings emphasize the importance of fostering effective study habits to enhance students' English learning achievements and overall educational outcomes.
