The Correlation between English Learners’ Aptitude and Their Vocabulary Mastery

Abstract

This study is conducted to investigate whether there is a significant correlation between English learners’ aptitude and their vocabulary mastery. This study used correlational design. The sample of this study was 30 students taken by random sampling which was from English Department of Halu Oleo University academic year 2019/2020. The researcher used 2 instruments such as Modern Language Aptitude Test (MLAT) and New Vocabulary Level Test (NVLT) to collect the data. Then the data were analyzed by using pearson product moment through SPSS 16.0. The result showed that the coefficient correlation between English learners’ aptitude and their vocabulary mastery was 0.388 indicatinga significant correlation. The significant score of each English learners’ aptitude has a significant correlation with vocabulary mastery because its probability value (sig.2-tailed) is 0.034 which is lower than 0.05 (sig (2-tailed) <∝). This indicates that there is a significant correlation between English learners’ aptitude and their vocabulary mastery.
