Abstract

The objective of this study was to find out motivational orientations of the learners who had used Ruangguru application to learn English. This study used a descriptive qualitative study as the methodology. The instruments included interview guides and an observation sheet. The data were collected by doing a semi-structural interview and observing the participants for three months. The participants were ten students at grade XII from two different senior high schools in Raha, namely Senior High School 2 Raha and Senior High School 1 Raha. The participants also had been experiencing Ruangguru application for more than a year. Then it was analyzed by using qualitative data analysis that requires date reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The result showed that there were five motivational orientations of learners on using Ruangguru application to learn English. Those were the activity orientation, goals orientation, economical orientation, social environment orientation, and family orientation. In conclusion, the participants had various motivational orientations in learning English on Ruangguru application.
